KAPA members in General Santos City are ready to rally tommorow

Thousands of Kapa-Community Ministry International Inc. members in Cotabato North began their journey on Wednesday ahead of a two-day prayer meeting in General Santos City.

Hundreds of trucks and private cars began queuing at the gas station in the capital city of Kidapawan to load the trip, causing traffic to pile up along the Davao-Cotabato National Highway.

A car owner who joined the trip to General Santos City said the committee distributed 1,500 pesos per car for fuel.

General Santos City Government issued permits for demonstrations scheduled for June 13 and 14.

KAPA, led by founder Pastor Joel Apolinario, was criticized for allegedly carrying out investment fraud.

An advisor from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said, KAPA persuaded the public to invest under the guise of a "Donation Deed" or "Membership Certificate" with a 30 percent interest promise every month for life.

President Rodrigo Duterte has directed the National Investigation Bureau to crack down on the groups involved in the investment scheme.

KAPA said it was open to investigation and denied that it had committed fraud.

Meanwhile, KAPA members hope Duterte will reconsider its decision to close the organization.
