Duterte, Xi Jinping agreed on the issue of the West Philippine Sea




 

President Rodrigo Duterte and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to do everything possible to maintain peace, security and stability in the West Philippine Sea by avoiding tension.


At an hour-long summit of the two leaders by telephone, apart from the WPS issue the President and Xi discussed the ongoing unrest in Europe and the COVID-19 pandemic.


The two reached an agreement to maintain regional peace, progress and prosperity for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).


They both agreed that it was important to negotiate and have a "Code of Conduct on the South China Sea."


Both leaders called for a peaceful resolution through dialogue in accordance with international law between Russia and Ukraine.


Both leaders will look at what can be done to reduce the effects of climate change.


Duterte and Xi also agreed that it is important for the COVID-19 vaccine to be available in all countries because it is important for the economic recovery of the region and the world.


The telephone conversation of the two leaders also paved the way for a review of the relationship between the two countries over the past six years.


The two leaders also recognized the need to further boost bilateral trade and economic exchange.
